On this day the best magazine ever in our region, "Astronomy" has ceased to rise. Shock and defeat all the astronomers in Serbia, where the magazine came out and here in Croatia and elsewhere. The first issue of Astronomy
After six years of publication, the exact date of its first issue, Astronomy, considered by many the best magazine for popularization of astronomy in the former Yugoslavia has ceased to rise. By turning off the magazine came in the International Year of Astronomy, in the year throughout the world marks four centuries since Galileo began to make use of the telescope and when Kepler discovered the laws of the first movement of the planets.
In total, 37 issues came out of astronomy at about 2800 pages. In astronomy, it was announced about a thousand articles, thousands of photos, maps, sketches and various illustrations. It was published dozens of interviews and a number of posters. Astronomy for at least one article written by 120 authors. For astronomers wrote pupils, students and university professors.

Shocked me the news I read on the pages of the Astronomical magazine! Although I knew that there were some problems around the issue of Astronomy, I believed that they would eventually be resolved and that we are a long time to hang out with these beautiful and magnificent magazine. I recalled the first time when I received it in the hands and prolistao. It was totally different from anything I had ever read. He had style, he won me at first, was (and remains) light years ahead of all journals in astronomy that I had read. He was warm and friendly, captivating the reader at first glance, it might simply feel that you are working people who love astronomy, who live in astronomy, be they professionals or they just love astronomy, hobbies ...
Astronomy is made with love for people and the universe
But fate had other plans. It's not a fate against which they can not. No. This is the fate that we create ourselves. It is in our heads. We created and built a society that does not cost more knowledge, which does not value the individual, which has a distorted value systems. In such a society, like a noble goal such as writing and publishing a magazine that promotes knowledge, which encourages people to engage in science, to know and reveal the secrets of the world around us, just had to glaze and leave us poorer for even a glimmer of light in the darkness, for one less source of knowledge. And while we're seeing fortune-tellers on TV to us every morning and night and shuffled the cards foretell destiny cottages, while the kiosks have astrological magazines more than newspapers and other printed yellow (at present I do not think the yellow National Geographic), science almost does not even speak. While many people think that our fate being decided over the heads of the invisible omnipotent being (and every culture has one or more of them), while people have no idea what was in the immediate vicinity or that bit further. Just look at our survey show that the level of knowledge. Is this what society we want and which aims at a?

And while humans kill about whether people were on the moon, there is a God and other nonsense, many people have forgotten how small and insignificant in the vastness of the universe. And how big is the universe, what it contains and how much we are really small and insignificant, revealing the science, not maps, horoscopes, or the Bible. Let's look at the not so distant past and recall the time when scientists were burned at the stake because they dared protivrječiti those who are not allowed to question the "truth" that they, and not there some kind of God, prescribed, remember to Giordano Bruno, Galileo Galileo, Nikola Tesla and the whole galaxy of scientists who have gone before us to pave the way for the future, so that we can now enjoy the fruits of their ideas and to lead all mankind into the future. These were not charlatans who had supernatural powers, they were open-minded people who have used their brains, unlike many who are around us here today, gave the order to progress, freedom and guiding ideas that they will not return to the era of darkness where ruled by shamans and their followers to lay down what is truth and what is not. But whether they succeed? It seems that in these our parts as if nobody had ever heard of them.
People who dare to go to their job, are now for most of the freaks, unusual characters who look at the stars at night. These do not watch some reality show, do not follow the empty TV soap operas, do not listen to what they say the local leaders in their "visokoumnim" lamentations ... No, they think for themselves and as such are dangerous to society. They are pliable and because of the possibility to know more, are potentially dangerous and should be denied a source of knowledge and ability to spread their ideas, in all possible ways. The result is - fate. The one I mentioned at the beginning. But today is no longer possible to stop the spread of ideas, to stop the development of science, to stop the truth! It was not possible before, especially not today. And so, last sentence of the editor in chief of Astronomy, has a calming effect and proud: But we did something!

Personal Lament of astronomy;
As president of the Astronomical Association Vidulini and myself can only say that the fire Astronomy disgrace to us all. Shutting down the highest quality journals in the field of astronomy, astronautics, and other natural sciences and engineering disciplines is a mirror of society and space in which we live. It does not matter why the extinction of Astronomy. The important fact is just how it happened, and above all how it happened in the (proclaimed by the UN) International Year of Astronomy - 2009.
Astronomy is passed through the border ..
Zorkić Alexander, founder and editor of the journal Astronomy and tortured for years held the life of Astronomy. In fact he was unreserved support of all our readers and we have in this or that way sometimes helped to Astronomy is something that children, young adults fall in love at first sight. Astronomja a magazine made out of love and starry enthusiasm! The journal is that it has crossed all boundaries and divisions.
A magazine is made by people for people! Astronomy is the highest quality astronomso-publishing project in the former Yugoslavia. Surrounded by fantastic people magazine went to other continents. The content, appearance, and by something in itself was a mirror of the soul of its editors and contributors. Unfortunately, this has come to an end. Amateur astronomers begin their work of love and enthusiasm and do not ask how much it costs. And all it cost! All we can run all you do is first based on the enthusiasm and no one asks how much it costs a whole skeleton! NOTHING IS FREE! It turns out that our own work came to a head after a while .. sometimes endure that day, that week, month or year. Sometimes several years (Astronomy for six) and then the thing pops to the delight of those (cast exceptions!) That will fire Astronomy soon declare its success ... It is a shame for Serbia but for us here in Croatia and elsewhere that the best magazine shuts down the International Year Astronomje - Iya 2009 ..
